Club History

2000 Fall – Ty Hagler founds the Sprint Canoe & Kayak Club at Georgia Tech (GTKayak). It is the first club of its kind in the country.

2001 Spring – Five paddlers travel to San Diego, CA for the inaugural USACK Collegiate National Championships and win.

2001 Fall – Club growth enables the purchase of K2s and K4s for training.

2002 Spring – Club’s first major Spring Break training trip to the Rainbow River in Florida with 12 paddlers, starting an annual tradition.

2002 Fall – Three GTKayak members and one UCSD paddler race for Team USA at the World University Games in Bari, Italy. We get demolished, but it was fun.

2002-2005 – GTKayak places second at USACK Collegiate National Championships.

2006 – GTKayak places first at USACK Collegiate National Championships in San Diego, CA.

2007 – GTKayak places first at USACK Collegiate National Championships in Gainesville, GA.

2008 – GTKayak places first at USACK Collegiate National Championships in Long Beach, CA.

2009 – GTKayak places first at USACK Collegiate National Championships in Oak Ridge, TN.

2010 – GTKayak places first at USACK Collegiate National Championships in Seattle, WA.

2011 – GTKayak places first at USACK Collegiate National Championships in Gainesville, GA.
